Salt Lake Tribune, Editoral - Mormons, Christians and the polygamists

I'm not sure I understand this. Mormons are indignant that mainline Christian churches don't regard them as true Christians even though the name of Jesus Christ appears prominently in the official name of the church. And frankly, I think they have a good argument. After all, if you profess a belief in Jesus Christ, in my mind you're a Christian.
But here's the disquieting rub. The same Mormons, annoyed that their interpretation of Christianity is not widely respected, turn right around and deny that their polygamous relatives in Colorado City/Hildale are entitled to be called Mormons. Mormons, like their more numerous cousins, regard Joseph Smith as a prophet, believe that they are currently led by a prophet, believe the Book of Mormon to be divinely inspired, and even adhere to "The Principle" (polygamy) advocated in Section 132 of the Doctrine and Covenants.
So, despite the enduring doctrinal gulf separating Mormons from other Christians, the former insist that they be included as part of the Christian mainstream, but remain unwilling to accept that polygamous neighbors on the Utah/Arizona border, with whom they share covered wagons full of the same beliefs, are Mormons, too.
Thus the paradox.

signs of bigotry
I believe now that bigotry is the issue, even if only subconscious.
I have been subject to it myself.
Humans are definitely a flawed species.
