'Anti-Mormon feeling is alive and well in America--and I know why,' says documentary Producer/Director, of Creek Park Pictures
'A Mormon President' to be screened in Salt Lake as MSNBC Commentator Hurls Insults At Mormon Faith

Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- "If this were baseball, Romney hit a triple with his 'Faith in America' speech, but he needed to hit a grand slam," says Adam Christing, producer/director of the documentary film, "A Mormon President" which will be pre-screened in Salt Lake City, this Wednesday, December 12th at 7:00 pm at Brewvies Cinema.
Christing thinks millions of Americans have an "Anti-Mormon" bias. His view was confirmed by Lawrence O'Donnell's stunning tirade against the Mormon faith over the weekend on PBS's McLaughlin Group. O'Donnell said, "Mormonism was founded by a fraudulent criminal," and attacked Romney's faith by stating, "Romney comes from a religion that was founded by a criminal who was anti-American, pro-slavery, and A RAPIST!"
Christing, who is not Mormon, but a member of the Mormon History Association, says that his film explores the roots of comments like O'Donnell's and the sources of Anti-Mormonism in America.
According to the director, "O'Donnell was wrong about slavery. Mormon founder Joseph Smith actually ran on a political platform of emancipation for the slaves when he ran for President in 1844. O'Donnell's comments were way over the top, but he got one thing right."
Christing says the thing O'Donnell demonstrated is that the skeletons in Mitt's closet do go back about 160 years -- to the Mormon Prophet. "There were 3 P's that doomed Joseph Smith's campaign for President: Polygamy, Plurality of Gods, and Politics. It's amazing that those 3 P's are still haunting Romney and the Mormon Church today," says the filmmaker.
Following the pre-screening on Wednesday night, there will be a panel discussion on "Anti-Mormonism in America" with Christing, historical expert Michael Riggs, Craig Foster, an LDS author who has studied the history of Anti-Mormon literature, and cable TV host Shawn McCraney, a "born-again Mormon" who wants to reform the LDS Church and who has been accused of being an Anti-Mormon.
Christing is prepping "A Mormon President" for a TV broadcast to air while America is in what he calls this "Mormon Focus Moment."

Big Mouth Bashes Mormons - New York Post

December 11, 2007 -- HBO execs would prefer if Lawrence O'Donnell would keep his mouth shut on the subject of Mormons. The Democrat, an MSNBC pundit, also plays a lawyer on "Big Love," the HBO hit about a Utah polygamist with three wives. HBO made a big effort when it launched "Big Love" to assure the Church of Latter-Day Saints it wasn't an attack on them. Mormons officially ended the practice of polygamy in 1890. But O'Donnell was on "The McLaughlin Group" Sunday denouncing the religion of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney as a "demented, Scientology-like . . . racist faith . . . based on the work of a lying, fraudulent criminal . . . [who was] anti-American, pro-slavery, and a rapist." Panelists Pat Buchanan, Monica Crowley and Eleanor Clift had trouble being heard as McLaughlin told the shouting O'Donnell, "Please relinquish!" Laughed one viewer: "He made Eleanor Clift look like Brooke Astor."
Things to think about
The subject of bigotry has been coming up lately in chat, and in the forums and these two articles go to show it is alive and well. It seems that it is still politically correct to say whatever one wishes about Mormons. Interesting, it is and no less from an actor on Big Love.
would be interesting...
Would be interesting to see that character fired for bigotry.
I do not tolerate bigotry (if you have not guessed that by now, I have a website you HAVE to join!). I have to say that I take bigotry personally. My corporation has terminated huge contracts based on the bigotry of the customer.
Zero tolerance for bigotry should be the standard carried by all Christians, including non-Mormons.
