Polygyny in the New Testament
An amplified paraphrase of the Bible's Romans 14:14 I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself [including of course polygyny]; except to her who reckons anything to be unclean [including polygyny], to that woman polygyny is unclean. 15 For if on account of [polygyny] your brother [or sister] is grieved, you walk no longer according to love. Destroy not him or her with your [polygyny] for whom Christ has died. 16 Let not then your [conviction that polygyny is] good be evil spoken of; 17 for the kingdom of God is not [polygyny] and [monogyny], but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For she that in this [controversy about polygyny] serves the Christ is acceptable to God and approved of men. 19 So then let us pursue the things which tend to peace, and things whereby one shall build up another. 20 For the sake of [polygyny] do not destroy the work of God. All things [including polygyny] indeed are pure; but it is evil to that woman who [becomes polygynous] while stumbling [in sin] because of her doubts about its rightness. 21 It is right not to [take a second wife], nor [take a third wife], nor do anything in which thy brother [or sister] stumbles [striking the toe of one's conscience against an obstacle inducing one to sin by acting in doubt], or is offended [ or stumbles or is enticed to act without faith or think unfavourably or unjustly of another and so displesed and indignant], or is made weak [morally feeble, without strength, powerless]. 22 Have you faith [to believe polygyny is right and so practice it]? Have that conviction to yourself before God. Blessed is the one who does not judge oneself in what [belief or practice of polygyny] one allows [with a firm and convinced faith in its rightness]. 23 But one that doubts [about the rightness of polygyny], if [that] one [becomes polygynous], [that one] is condemned; because that one became polygynous not because of faith [in its rightness]; but whatever [behavior or thought does not originate from] faith [in its rightness before God] is sin. 15:1 ¶ But *we* ought, we that are strong [in our polygynous beliefs], to bear the infirmities of the weak [in this aspect of the faith], and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each one of us please his neighbour with a view to what is good, to edification. 3 For the Christ also did not please himself;
***1Cor 8: 8 It is true that a particular kind of [marriage] will not bring us into God’s presence; we are neither inferior to others if we abstain from [polygyny], nor superior to them if we [practice] it. 9 But take care lest this liberty of yours should prove a hindrance to the progress of weak believers. 10 For if any one were to see you, who know the real truth of this matter, [practicing polygyny], would not his conscience (supposing him to be a weak believer) be emboldened to [practice polygyny as well but with doubts]? 11 Why, your knowledge becomes the ruin of the weak believer--your brother, for whom Christ died! 12 Moreover when you thus sin against the brethren and wound their weak consciences, you are, in reality, sinning against Christ. 13 Therefore if [my polygyny] causes my brother to fall, never again to the end of my days will I [openly and publically practice polygyny], for fear I should cause my brother to fall. [Derived from 1 Cor 8:8-13]
***1Cor 10: 23 ¶ Everything is allowable, but not everything is profitable. Everything is allowable, but everything does not build others up. 24 No one should be for ever seeking his own good, but each should seek that [good] of his fellow man. 25 Any [form of marriage practiced in the world, is good for marrying,] and ask no questions for conscience’ sake; 26 for 27 If an unbeliever gives you an invitation and you are disposed to accept it, [accept it in the form of marriage that you please], and ask no questions for conscience’ sake. 28 But if any one tells you, “This [form of marriage is wrong and evil];†abstain from [manifesting] it--out of respect for him who warned you, and, as before, for conscience’ sake. 29 But now I mean his conscience, not your own. “Why, on what ground,†you may object, “is the question of my liberty of action to be decided by a conscience not my own? 30 If, so far as I am concerned, I partake [ of the form of marriage I please] with a grateful heart, why am I to be found fault with in regard to a thing for which I give thanks?†31 Whether, then, you are [marrying polygynously or marrying monogynously], or whatever you are doing, everything should be done to the glory of God. 32 Do not [let your form of marriage] be causes of stumbling either to Jews or to Gentiles, nor to the Church of God. 33 That is the way that I also seek in everything the approval of all men, not aiming at my own profit, but at that of the many, in the hope that they may be saved.

Matthew 25
1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Jehovah and Jesus loves the polygamist this is true
Thank you for the post, it is always nice to read scripture and take shelter in the love Jehovah and Jesus has for us. It some times stands out to me that we look for justification for our actions in the words of the lord, rather than just living by them. Jehovah loves the polygamist this is true, he also loves the monogamist the philosophist the philanthropist the cowardice the righteous the sinner the lowly and the surrendered; Jehovah even loves the atheists. God and Gods servents love everyone...
If we look closely at what was said in Cor 10:31 what ever we do; we do for Gods will, his righteousness so “whatever you are doing, everything should be done to the glory of God." Jesus condensed it with this first and foremost commandment "Love the father with all thy heart all thy soul thy very being" to do his will and serving with out fear; serving with love means serving with out fear.
Whether we marry one wife no wife or many wives it does not matter as long as “whatever you are doing, everything should be done to the glory of God.†Then our life is perfect, its not a case of I am right if it here in scripture it’s a case of "why do I do it?" This is how we can judge if we are right or wrong for each of us knows deep with in, weather I do this for my own enjoyment or that of my Fathers enjoyment.
So what ever I do.. meaning any thing, everything all actions all decisions all purpose to my existence is done for the glorification of God and his devotees, and this is how I know polygamy can be perfect; not just because the bible says some ancestor had 2 wives... because I can marry 2 wives and be down right demonic or I can be the servant of God... either way I can have 2 wives I can be in accordance with the words or I can live life in them.
Please excuse any dictatorial arrogance; I only try to pass on what I have been given as a gift not as a sermon or something.

I like the way you put that. So many forhet that God loves everyone all the time. Sometimes it almost like Poly people flaunt that they are able to waLK in this light. But to me there is double resposibility if you have 2 wives or triple if you have 3 Just my 2 cents worth

RE: Polygyny in the New Testament
Wow! What a great piece. Like I said in another post, I am not an avid bible reader, but have looked for passages to support my beliefs. I know in my heart it is right, but have never had actual scripture to relate my beliefs to. I would like to copy and post this piece in my yahoo groups, with your permission of course, for the people who come with questions about the right or wrong of polygyny. I think it would help them a great deal in finding the right path that was chosen for them, weather it be polygyny or monogamy. Witht his article they know they have a choice according to their belief.

Mosaic Law + Messianic Alterations
There were certain Mosaic laws that were specifically altered by the Messiah, and there were other laws that remained unaltered.
In Mosaic law, for example, adherents were permitted to kill their enemies. An adulteress could be stoned to death. Soldiers were authorized to kill.
Under Messianic law, we see a completely different approach in these issues: adherents are obligated to forgive their enemies, an adulteress could not be held in judgment, and soldiers were ordered to refrain from harming anyone (Luke 3:14).
It seems to me that if the Messiah wished to end polygyny, He would have addressed the issue. In the Old Testament we are told learn not the way of the heathen per Jeremiah 10:2. In other words, we are not bound by pagan practices. On that basis, since monogamy was a pagan practice, it stands to reason that adherents are not obligated to honor it under Messianic law as under Mosaic law.
Since polygyny was deemed as adding to the glory of God under Mosaic law, and it was not ended in the New Testament, we can safely assume that it further glories God under Messianic law as well.
I have posted this before....but
Monogamy was a ROMAN PAGAN PRACTICE adopted by the Christian Church as a MARKETING PLOY to attract more PAGANS to the Christian faith. Monogamy has NO CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION. It is a PAGAN practice.
I would rather follow the true faith and religion.

Amen!
In the New Testament, Sarah was upheld as the ideal wife. Christian women are called ''Sarah's daughters'' if they do the same as she did as per I Peter 3:6.
And what precisely did Sarah do that set her apart from other women in the Bible? She called her husband ''Master'' and selected concubines and mistresses for him. Hagar is but one example.
The ideal Christian woman does the same in order to assure a marriage that is to the glory of God.
Now, my question and challenge to the forum membership is how do we as practitioners or as believers (I am not married) convey this biblical truth to the world?
Amen
Amen,
I would say that we stay vigilant to be above reproach, and we understand our topic well enough that we can explain it skillfully when the need arises.
The very best thing to do is to be a living testimony.
