Malachi 4 vs 5-6

This is mainly to people who understand the bible very deeply.Not specifically about polygamy.I was reading the above chapter in the bible (Malachi 4) and having a discussion about it with someone recentlty and we seem to be disagreeing with the meaning of what this verse entails or means.The verse is quoted below:

6: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

I would very much apprecite it if anyone who can could explain or respond before Friday evening.No pressure!
