When is tolerance a crime? (commentary on the situation in Canada)
http://www.bcrevolution.ca/human_rights_gestapo.htm
Liberal judges and politicians sure do find interesting ways to create new
and ever oppressive legislation they call "laws", but perhaps none so
farcical as a "law" against that ever so sacred liberal cow called 'tolerance'.
Ordinarily, so-called "liberals" will beat you mercilessly over the head with
wild claims of "your intolerance" over a host of issues, even when it involves
the intolerance of the abortion of late term foetuses, by crushing their skulls
(more on this below). However this latest article shows a new shift in twisted
"liberal" philosophy.
Evidently, the fact that three or more adults would enter marriage contracts
is somehow a violation of women and children's rights. Their charge is to
smear the relationship with problems already associated with standard marriages,
such as alleged abuse, and a host of other outlandish claims.
The report stated that polygamy "robs women of their right to marriage
exclusivity, family life, security and enjoyment of their citizenship". However
the report gives no explanation for how it does that, especially given the fact
that consent is required, families are usually larger and more secure, and
citizenship is totally unaffected. Did we need to tell you this?
It is difficult, in any case, to believe the Liberal government (who commissioned
the report that was paid for by tax payers) really care about the rights of children.
It was, after all, the Liberal party that repeatedly blocked the recommendations of
a house and senate committee report [For the sake of the Children] for years and
years, and are still blocking the recommendations - as opposition to the
conservative minority government. The recommendations contained in the
aforementioned report had the support of over 90 percent of Canadians.
The only way polygamy could be illegal, or a violation of anyone's rights, is if it
violates any of the common laws already in force for all contracts. For example,
the Liberal government of BC is violating the rights of motorists by using force to
make them buy insurance from their exclusive company - ICBC. But for adults to
mutually agree on how they wish to arrange their family arrangements is the right
of free people. Abuse is a totally separate issue to that of the number of spouses
entered into a marriage contract.
Isn't the Liberal party the same party that "legalized" the idea that people of the same
gender can be legally married? Why no concern about the rights of children here?
It seems that only these "neo-liberals" can understand this incoherent maze of
illogical legislative hogwash. They clearly have a problem when it comes to
understanding fundamental tenets of common law justice. This is not something any
of us should be tolerating from our civil servants.

I would really love to know
I would really love to know HOW they see this as keeping women from making their own decisions. In most cases women CHOOSE to be a plural wives (marriage). "robs women of their right to marriage exclusivity, family life, security and enjoyment of their citizenship" For lack of a better term at this moment, this is a very stupid statement. It is the decision of the woman to live this way AND enriches the lives of the children due to more support (emotionally, financely, physically)from adults in the lives of those children. The spiritual aspect of it is overwhelming alone. Yes, there are some people out there giving polygamy a bad name. But you don't cut down the whole orchard because of one bad apple. You pick that apple, throw it out, & set things in place to help prevent more bad growth so that the whole orchard survives. Liberals are simply put....closed minded individuals!!
Have You All Forgotten?
I am not so sure what the fuss is about because we are talking about matters of Civil Law. Canada recognises Common Law, and there is no limit to how many wives a man can have under Common Law. So, Polygyny is already LEGAL! A person just has to know their Common Law rights. You can always look at "Freeman on the Land" on Youtube to understand what your Common Law rights are.
Liberals oppose polygamy
Liberals oppose polygamy because they view it as patriarchal, and because liberals dislike men this makes polygamists a target. It is only because liberals view women as inferior that they feel they must be protected, they will of course never admit this.
A possible defence, if you end up in court
Many legal conventions nowadays include important rights, such as for example Freedom of Association. This is usually understood in a poltical context (trade unions, new political groups, and so on) But perhaps "freedom of association" could also be understood to include the right of two or more women to associate with each other, and with the same man. In other words, the denial of women's right to engage in a polygamous relationship, would be a denial of their right of free association. Just an idea.
Here's Wikipedia on Freedom of Association:
Freedom of association is the individual right to come together with other individuals and collectively express, promote, pursue and defend common interests.[1] The right to freedom of association has been included in a number of national constitutions and human rights instruments, including the European Convention on Human Rights and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
United States Constitution
While the United States Constitution's First Amendment identifies the rights to assemble and to petition the government, the text of the First Amendment does not make specific mention of a right to association. Nevertheless, the United States Supreme Court held in NAACP v. Alabama that the freedom of association is an essential part of the Freedom of Speech because, in many cases, people can engage in effective speech only when they join with others.
Libertarian
Libertarians also argue that freedom of association, in a political context, is merely the extension of the right to determine with whom to associate in one's personal life
Intimate Association
A fundamental element of personal liberty is the right to choose to enter into and maintain certain intimate human relationships. These intimate human relationships are considered forms of "intimate association." The paradigmatic example of "intimate association" is the family.
