Mormon Polygamy Discussion

Joe Darger interviewed on the BBC

The Nolan Show is a late night program, broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live. Friday 2oth January 2011, host Stephen Nolan interviewed Joe Darger. A longish interview, and quite good. Nolan's incredulity is interesting. The interview does not appear at the beginning of the program, but about halfway in. You should be able to get it up on the BBC iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/b019g8x3/

Two polygamy novels

I came across the following review, of a couple of novels with a polygamy theme. (Note: the reviewer is a feminist)

Keep Sweet is one of several recent novels that imagine life in fundamentalist Mormon communities where polyamory and forced unions are the norm. The drama by Michele Dominguez Greene unfolds on a Utah compound called Pineridge where a girl named Alva Jane lives with her father, his seven wives, and her 28 siblings. “Keep sweet” is one of the rules the girls are instructed to live by: Whatever happens, smile through it and don’t protest.

Confused

I grew up in the orthodox christian church. The church has good beliefs when it comes to family life, though my family wasn't close, nor were any other families we knew. I have become quite interested in the older Mormon beliefs (and when I say older I don't mean to offend, it is just that what I read in the book of Mormon and other various things, some of the Mormons I know say they don't belief in all of it.)

I have found myself in numerous unusual situations over the years (oops, I did it again), but one of the most memorable was the time I spent in the arms of Rulon C. Allred, the prophet and spiritual leader of an estimated 10,000 Mormon polygamists in the U.S. and Mexico.

No, we were not in the throes of “replenishing the Earth,” as Dr. Allred, a homeopathic physician, regularly reminded his flock to do “with vigor, pleasure and the love of God.”

We were dancing.

legal vs. church

If polygamy was to become legal do you think the the church of Jesus Christ of later day saints would sanction it again?

Hello

Hi. My name is Nicky and I am the second wife.
I am still looking around the site. I am not Mormon, but my family is.
I am researching everything but I'm still not sure about switching religions.
Look forward to chatting with everyone.

Been Studying Polygamy a lot!

I've recently made friends with the Parowan Prophet. I can't help but think of him as a true prophet since he's been eludicating on the sins of the Mormon people for well over 30 years now.

Why did I bring this up? Well, another friend told me that Plural Marriage is celestial marriage, as I was thinking about this -- being a terribly smart man in the ways of science and not wisdom -- I came across the Parowan Prophet's site while looking up a prophecy by John Taylor and the Constitution.
