Mormon Polygamy Discussion

LDS, Polygamy and More

Let me begin with this. I was not raised within the Church, nor was I ever allowed within the Temple. I learned about the Church probably around the age of twenty-one when I was very busy with my schooling and many other things. I did my best to attend as often as I could. I have been baptized Mormon. In fact, I still have my little key chain that was supposed to symbolize the light of the holy spirit. I went to church faithfully for a few years, until I started having dreams.. having.. thoughts that seemed to plague me considering that I have been taught the past few years that Plural Marriage is bad. So I faded out from Church which was easy to do when I moved to a different state. However, here is where I sit. I am very close to a Ward here in Las Vegas.

Independent Hall Book Club Logan, UT

We are having our first book club meeting coming up this month on Sunday March 28th at 8:00. Our club is called Independent Hall & for this meeting we will be discussing the White Horse Prophecy book by Ogden Kraut. This will be held in our home all are welcome to attend. All we ask is that everyone be considerate of the beliefs of others so that there is freedom for everyone to have a chance to share & speak their mind. If you need a copy of the book either let me know (I have one extra) or give Kevin Kraut a call (801)754-5465 and he can send you a copy. We plan on having a meeting at least once a month from here on. We are looking forward to having a decent size group for our first get together & hope to see you there.

Facebook the new LDS

This post is mostly for LDS members or former members who still have a testimony in the restoration of the Gospel threw the prophet Joseph Smith. Who believe that Plural Marriage is an essential part of our beliefs. This is not an anti-mormon group. I have to believe there are other people like me who love there religion even though it has given up certain principals. People like me who do not want to give up their faith but add to it. I have started Facebook group to get like minded people together and chat and possibly meet if thats what you want to do. It will be set on private so only members can see other members. Hope to see you there.

New to the Club

After almost 2 years of studying, listening & praying, I have finally come to know about the truth of living plural marriage. I never in a million years thought I would ever see myself participating on a polygamy forum, but here I sure am and glad to be here. I'm a convert to the church, went on a mission, married in the temple, etc. etc. & I am still active in the church. However I've come to learn that the gospel & the church are two separate things. I know that the gospel is true & always will be. The church is only where we go to learn about the gospel.

An estimated 30,000 to 50,000 people live a polygamist lifestyle in the US, many in sects splintered from the Mormon Church.

This story is adapted from a broadcast audio segment; use audio player to listen to story in its entirety.

According to researchers at Brigham and Young University, an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 people live a polygamist lifestyle in the US. Many polygamists live in sects splintered from the Mormon Church after it renounced polygamy in the 1800s. Those sects believe that Joseph Smith had a revelation that, in order to replenish earth and the celestial afterlife, men should have as many children and wives as possible.

Hello

I believe that polygamy is a victimless crime. I believe polygamy should be allowed under the constitution. Since by denying polygamy goes against the constitutional rights of religious freedom and pursuit of the freedom of happiness and freedom of association.

Unfortunately there are those who say that women are opressed. Yet women were opressed and denied education by monogamy so therefore they are false.

I believe in polygamy and would love a sister wife and if she were truly my sister.

El or Yahweh had a celestial family of at least 4 wives who all treasured each other as sisters. They looked after one another.

I would encourage the principal in my husband and would welcome sister wives since we would all keep each other company in the afterlife.

In 1896, Martha Hughes Cannon spent a total of $35 in the campaign that led to her election as a member of Utah's fledgling state Senate.

It was a seminal moment in U.S. politics. In that election, Cannon became the first woman in America to be elected to any state senate. The fact that she defeated her husband in the election made her victory part of Utah's folklore.

As a pioneer doctor, a champion of public health, and a polygamist's wife who was also a leader in the suffragist movement, Cannon carved out a unique place in the annals of the state's history.

events leading up to the manifesto

I have heard that before the manifesto was released that Wilford Woodruff took a vote of those who were for plural marriage and those who were for state hood. The vast majority were for state hood and thus the Lord could not fight the battles of those who called themselves saints but would not accept the fullness of the gospel and thus the dream that lead to the manifesto.

I would appreciate any clarification and documentation about this.

I also have more questions that would not be appropriate in an open forum if you feel that you might be able to help me with these other questions please contact me.
